There was great excitement on the island recently when, because of the dry weather, there was a sand-slide on the large dune in the middle of the golf course and an ancient skull and some other bones were discovered by Chris and Sheena Nisbet. This is possibly an old Viking grave and Kevin is trying to get some archaeologists over to verify if this is indeed the case. Don, the local policeman, now has the area cordoned off until it can be investigated.

We are enjoying an extremely busy 2010 season in the lodges. All the downstairs renovations and new kitchens are being appreciated by our guests and there are more improvements planned for upstairs in Sophie and Maghnus over the coming winter months. After the complete revamp in Geaspar, the new green astroturf decking on the verandah is causing some consternation for a certain member of the hotel staff who is insisting that one day, we will see a picture of it in the Corncrake and it will have changed colour to blue!

There are plans afoot for a Spring Festival next year on Colonsay from 29th April until 20th May 2011. This is a great time to see the fantastic variety of wildflowers and birdlife that Colonsay has to offer and normally the weather is at it’s best behaviour (and no midges)!  Amongst other events, the RSPB will be doing guided walks and there will be an eminent botanist who will be taking walks to enjoy the prolific wildflowers that are abundant at the time. There are also plans for ‘foraging and cooking’ days out and farm walks and talks at Balnahard farm which would be especially enjoyable for children.
